Choose a topic that is controversial and discuss where the literature stands on the issue. Examples- (do not use) antidepressant use in children, autism and vaccines
Overall- you should aim for a paper length around 6 pages, PLEASE do not go over 10. (Current literature review about 4 pages; evaluation of current research/future directions: about 1-2 pages). I am not going to put an exact number on citations because that would not be fair, depending on the topic. However; 10 is likely too little… 35 is likely too many…APA for citation style.
Section 1: Introduction
This is where you do a literature review summarizing the research in the area. Key word being a summary. This means you will likely not go into each study specifically. Tell me overall what the research says regarding the issue. While summarizing, you still must cite all the relevant articles. You did not do any of this research yourself- thus you will have to cite for every claim you make. DO NOT USE QUOTATIONS- EVER.
Section 2: Evaluation of current research and future directions
Evaluate the studies. You just described what they found. Are they missing anything? Did they not report some key? Did they have really small samples? Are they missing objective measures or something you think is key? Do you think the evidence is really strong on one side and has problems with the other? What do you think might make the research more or less convincing (back it up by research)
What is missing from the current research that would help us understand the issue better? What do we still need to know? What would help clarify the questions that still remain? If you were going to study this, what would you find key?
Note- These questions are just to help direct you and of course you can include more than what I have put here. That being said be concise, include what is relevant, but don’t throw in everything that could be tangentially related!
